Frequently asked questions

The answers we get asked for most often

Does NASLORD replace Dell management tools?

No. NASLORD complements OneFS, ObjectScale and DD OS. Your Dell tools remain the reference for platform configuration. NASLORD adds the layer they do not provide: cost allocation, budgets and forecasts, confined delegation by access zone, and immutable-copy automation.

What information does NASLORD collect?

Usage and configuration metadata: capacity, quotas, file and object counts, API counters, share and export definitions, access zones, MTrees and protected copies. NASLORD never reads the content of your files or objects.

Does any customer data leave our environment?

No. The appliance runs entirely inside your VMware environment and keeps all of its data in its local database. NASLORD sends no telemetry, no metrics and no customer information to Gallium or to any third party.

Which OneFS, ObjectScale and DD OS versions are supported?

Supported versions are published in the compatibility matrix, which carries a version number and a last-updated date. It is the single official reference; if you are unsure about a specific version, write to us before the evaluation.

Can NASLORD manage multiple clusters?

Yes. A single appliance manages multiple PowerScale clusters, multiple ObjectScale virtual data centres and multiple PowerProtect DD appliances, whatever their size. Consolidated views and reports cover the whole estate.

Is a read-only deployment available?

Yes. For chargeback and showback, NASLORD works with a read-only service account: it collects and presents data without being able to change your Dell systems’ configuration. Write privileges are only required for the delegation and protected-copy modules.

How is licensing calculated?

Licensing is per module and based on the scope of the managed environment (number of Dell systems and covered capacity). There is no named-user billing. We confirm the exact calculation during the discovery call, before any evaluation.

What happens after the 90-day trial?

You decide. If you continue, a licence key is applied to the appliance already in place: no reinstallation, no lost history. If you don’t, the appliance is simply removed from your environment. Nothing is billed during the evaluation.
